Joining God in the Renewal of Crown Heights
The story of our community has been building for some time. Four years ago, a dream began sprouting in a small group of believers of what a new church community could look like in the neighborhood of Crown Heights. A small community began forming and meeting in each other’s homes and two years later those groups came together to form a Missional Community devoted to finding ways in which we could serve our neighbors. It was clear that God was at work, but the possibility of a church still seemed a long way off.
In the fall of 2012, Rashad Clemons and his wife Stacy, a native of Brooklyn, began feeling a strong call to move to New York. They began to pray for clarity and most of all courage, knowing the challenges they would face raising a family of six in New York City. God answered their prayers in real and tangible ways, such as the selling of their home in two weeks! God continued to make the provisions for them to move and they celebrated the new year of 2013 in Brooklyn.Rashad began developing relationships with community organizations such as Save Our Streets and local pastors and the response to a church plant in Crown Heights was a resounding yes!God has also added to our community new people and families who are longing to see a new expression of God’s Kingdom in Crown Heights. We believe that God is calling us to plant a church in the spring of 2014 and would love for you to partner with us in joining God for the renewal of Crown Heights.
Who we are and who God is calling us to be…
A Reconciled Community: We want to see the love of Jesus expressed in Crown Heights, and we believe one of the best pictures of the Kingdom of God on earth is a culturally diverse community of people both ethnically, economically, generationally that loves each other deeply and loves its neighbors as well.
A Partnering Community: We are blessed to be part of a network of neighborhood churches throughout the city, including Trinity Grace Park Slope, where many in our community first heard and responded to the call to connect and plant in our own neighborhood. We are called to join in with the great work that is already being done in Brooklyn, both in other churches and community organizations throughout Crown Heights.This summer we had the opportunity to host a 5-week Theatre Workshop for middle schoolers in our community and are now planning to launch a full-scale after school arts program within the year.
